ZTE’s Axon series has long been known to come out with great devices with few compromises and at a superb value. The series welcomes their latest member, ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G. The new smartphone is exactly like the ZTE Axon 10 Pro, the main difference is the additional Qualcomm X50 5G modem, making it a speed demon (data speed). It also shares the same body build and other features, though you will have to pay extra for the 5G feature has been added.
The new device will be released in May 2019 and is a smartphone for users who want high caliber experience. Despite featuring a high caliber experience, yet it doesn’t cost a thousand dollars or more. Below is the full review of ZTE’s first 5G-compatible smartphone.
The new smartphone which recently got released speaks the same design language with the ordinary ZTE Axon 10 Pro. The smartphone has an AMOLED display which was gently curved at its edges resulting in a premium look and feel.
The new smartphone is made of glasses both front and back while the frames are aluminum. It maintains a thin and rounded corner profile which makes it easy to fit into your palm and can be managed using one hand.
The smartphone has a dewdrop notch which contains the selfie camera and is seated at the top of the display. On top of the dewdrop notch which is along the edges, you will find the earpiece.
Just like some flagship smartphones also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor which is becoming a norm. The fingerprint is responsive though not as fast as the one on the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom.
On the back of the reflective mirror finish back, there you will triple vertically placed camera sensor which is by the left side of the smartphone. Under the camera setup, there is a LED flash for brighter images even in low light conditions. The smartphone is presented in only one color which happens to be blue.
The AMOLED display is a 6.47 inches screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels with a 19.5:9 ratio. It also has a 398 PPI density and also features the HDR10. The screen color production was nice and it also has excellent contrast, though the colors weren’t completely as vibrant as a Samsung display.
The smartphone didn’t feature the 3.5mm jack, meanwhile, the bottom holds the USB and loudspeaker.
ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G Camera
For all your photography, you have a triple primary camera at the back and a single selfie camera. The triple primary camera set up all has different focal lengths. The primary camera is made up of a 48MP Samsung GM1 with an f/1.7 aperture.
The second is an 8-MegaPixel with an f/2.4 (telephoto) with other features like PDAF, OIS, and 3x optical zoom. The third is a 20-MegaPixel with an f/2.2 aperture 11mm (ultrawide) and other features of the cameras include 5x hybrid zoom and 10x digital zoom.
As mentioned earlier, the notch ontop the screen holds the single selfie camera sensor which is also a 20-MegaPixel shooter.
What really matters in a camera is to have a nice image processing setup than just a great sensor. Generally, the smartphone offers good images with crisp details, exposure across the frame. The issues with the cameras are the shadows that appear too dark which causes a lack of details in such areas. Also, the dynamic range is not so wide, while colors remain a little flat.
The overall performance of the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5g was amazing. Powering the smartphone is Qualcomm’s most powerful processor, Snapdragon 855 (7 nm). Another great addition is the X50 5G modem which is the main selling point of this device.

The processor is an Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 485 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 485) based. Meanwhile, for all your gaming and graphics, you have the Adreno 640 GPU.
The smartphone runs on the company’s MiFavor 9.1 which is based on the Android 9.0 (Pie). To further make the performance more amazing, ZTE employed the use of an AI engine which studies your app usage. What it does is to make your frequently used apps load faster.
The ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G ships in three different models which is the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. The second is the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage, while the base model is the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.
