ZIP is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan. It is a system used by the United States Postal Service since 1963 for the same purpose as Postal Codes are used in other countries. All you need do is fill in the Postal Code that is Internationally allocated to Nigeria. You can make use of  110001, 23401 or 00176. Any of these would work or at least one would work in your situation.

Now coming back home. The Nigerian postal code which is designed by NIPOST (Nigerian Postal Service) is usually made up of 6 digits. NIPOST divided the country into 9 regions, therefore you might have to see a postal code in Nigeria starting from 1 through 9. The second and third digits, when combined with the first digit, it refers to the dispatch district for outgoing sorting. Now talking about the last three digits, it refers to the exact location in the region where the post is to be made.

So, when you are asked to fill in your local postal code for instance on websites within Nigeria or services that need to make a delivery to your very location, you can then start looking for your city’s or State’s postal or zip code as some might still refer to it (Remember, it’s referred to as ZIP code only in the US).
