Ever wanted an on-the-go USB thumb drive that connects both to a regular computer via USB-A and a portable computing device (tablet or smartphone) via USB-C?
Then, you might want to take a look at the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive USB flash drive that comes in this simplistic design. This is more like the Android version for the iXpand Flash for iPhones/iPads we covered sometime back on this blog.
This is a simple yet nice-looking USB drive that is made to give you the convenience of connecting via 2 USB connectors, with the option to seamlessly transfer files between supported devices.
Design
The SanDisk Ultra features a mix of metal and plastic, housing the retractable thumb drive in a tiny footprint. You can easily lose this device as a result of how small it is, that is to say you get a compact form factor here with dimensions (L x W x H) at 0.79″ x 1.5″ x 0.37″.
Sliding the thumb drive in one direction reveals a USB type-C connector while pushing it in the reverse direction reveals a USB A 3.1 connector, obviously backward compatible with the various USB standards.
Obviously, this means an option to store files from a computer and an Android phone, with the luxury of connecting to, both an Android device and also a PC for seamless data transfer.
Performance
There are a lot of storage options available on the Ultra starting with the 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and a 256GB capacity stick.
Performance as stated on the pack, in theory, gets up to 150MB/s. We decided to put it to an actual read-write test using the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test app, and came up with the below result.
A 148.3MB/s read speed, which is approximately what was stated, and you get up to 60.3MB write speed from this flash drive.
Price
When it comes to pricing here, the Sandisk Ultra Dual USB C has a variety of prices, obviously based on the several storage options available. From the official webpage, you can get the 16GB storage for $9.29, 32GB for $9.49, 64GB for $13.99, 128GB for $22.49 and the 256GB variant for $38.99.
Verdict
With a reversible USB Type-C connector and a traditional USB connector, the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C flash lets the user quickly and easily transfer files between smartphones, tablets, and computers. It is a handy storage option for a lot of people you wouldn’t go wrong with.
