Let’s explore a couple of effective tips to design a successful ecommerce website.
1. Use Photographs Wisely:
You need to understand that your customers do not get to touch the products online, and so, the role of photographs becomes crucial in this case. Use sharp images which have superior quality and are certainly not pixilated or blurry.
An option of customizing products is a good way of actively involving your customers on your web store. Allow them to upload their own images and allow them to try the products on them. It is a sure way to make the designs interactive.
By having different angle pictures of the product will certainly help your product to be understood in a better way. Customers will first buy it with their eyes and then money!
2. Display Information Clearly:
This is one of the most important elements of website designing, which by all means, should be spotted. Your customers should be made completely aware of what product are they buying, how will the payment be made and what are the clauses of shipping and delivery.
It is not advisable to keep them in the dark till they are not done finishing the payment. Be transparent and honest with your customers and you’re likely to have them for life.
3. Navigation Tool:
This tool works like magic, if done properly. Navigation tool can either make or mar your website. Approach the creation of navigation tool from a customer’s point of view because they are the ones who are going to navigate your website. Create filters that assist customers to easily find products they are willing to buy.
Many designers either overdo or under do product filters and categories’, so avoid that practice. You need to be aware of certain basic filters that are needed to search a specific product. The best way to nail down those filters is by asking customers themselves. Go and take a small effective survey and you will have your filters ready.
4. Website Personality: How about giving the website a niche personality by using defined colors, styles and patterns that are unique? Of course, nothing beats functionality of the web site; however, it is good to have an own charming effect on the customers while they are browsing the site.
Just by adding unique flavors to the styling of the fonts will give a site its own uniqueness and will look extraordinarily stunning.
5. Don’t Create A Clutter On The Pages: The last thing a designer should do is too add never ending content on web pages especially the product page. A good designer will make sure that pages look clearer and not messy. Remember, an ecommerce web site is your online store and nobody wants to walk into a store that is clumsy-looking.
Let all the products on the page get their own unique space having small description and cost. Give space to your customers to absorb the page.
6. Display Variations Effectively: If you belong to an industry that has multiple variations in product categories, then display those variations very clearly. If a product is available in many colors and sizes, then include images for different combinations.
A designer can display such variations very beautifully and effectively. One can get as creative as possible in this arena.
7. Check-Out Designs: Ok, so your customer has chosen a product and wants to buy it via a shopping cart. Keep the check out page as simple and clutter free as you can. Do not overwhelm your customers by displaying more similar products on the page.
As a designer, do not entertain more adverts on the page and more so, remove sidebar navigation.
Ideally your check-out page should not have many stages but if it does, then keep it simple and clear. Losing a customer due to lack of clarity in the check-out stage is very disappointing.
By having a functional and ‘pleasing to the eyes’ website, you will be able to have a following of several potential customers. A designer’s job is to make the visitors feel comfortable on the web page and win their trust. A simple concept that needs to be employed by all designers is ‘KISS’ – Keep It Simple Stupid!

When it comes to ecommerce website, design layout, user experience and user safety matter. The layout must be appealing, there should be easy navigation, and the user must trust the site to protect its personal details since it would be using credit cards and other financial payment system. A designer must bear these in mind! This post was found in kingged where it was shared and upvoted.

Saftey is what every buying wants, here in nigeria people are afraid of being scammed and because of that the rate of buying products online is little, when buyers get trust inn your ecommerce site then you’re good to go.

When it comes to eCommerce user experience and trust play the key role in success. So make sure your blog is user friendly and has trusted payment gateways such as PayPal, Authorize.net etc.
Hi Pankaj Gupta,
Trust! Yes trust is what makes an ecommerce website stand firm, by the way trust alone won’t work alone, you’ll have to include the whole above mentioned factors with safty/trust to go ahead.
