WhatsApp now allows up to 32-person group voice calls; with the new Communities feature launch, WhatsApp has increased the group voice call limit. On Android and iOS, the option that allows up to 32 individuals to have a group audio call has now been officially pushed out. Additionally, the Meta-owned messaging behemoth has launched a new group call UI with features such as speaker-highlighting, waveforms, etc.
With the latest version for Android and iOS, WhatsApp has begun rolling out the new 32-person group phone call and a redesigned user interface. To use the new capabilities, Android users must update to WhatsApp v2.22.9.73, while iOS users must upgrade to WhatsApp v22.8.80. Updated styles for voice message bubbles and other minor enhancements are listed in the App Store changelog.

Users will be able to add up to 32 people to a group call, allowing them to host a big party or conduct an important office meeting. WhatsApp has upgraded the group call UI with square-shaped blocks for each member with their name, profile photo, and a waveform animation to help users manage the big group call.
Similar to Microsoft Teams, when users speak, their grid is highlighted along with the waveform animation. Others’ grids stay without a highlight and a flat waveform since they are not communicating. Users who mute their microphones will also see a muted-mic symbol.
WhatsApp hopes to promote its Communities feature, allowing users to organize better and manage their group chats. The company is also working on an excellent polling function for groups to improve the user experience in group chat, which should be available soon.

This feature significantly improves over the previous 8-person group voice call restriction. In 2020, the corporation increased the number of users allowed in a group voice call from four to eight. WhatsApp added the ability for users to join in-progress group calls last year.
