14 Samsung Android Devices to Receive Android 4.4 Kitkat Update

Samsung officially announced and made a list of their devices to receive Android 4.4.2 Kitkat updates. Unfortunately, the update will be only for the U.S. users for now.

About Android KitKat

Android KitKat is the newest version of Android. The name was announced by Google on September 3rd, and the operating system was released on October 31st. In order to be able to use the name, Google created a license with Nestle, the owner of the KitKat candy.

The update was more significant than the past two updates, and brought several new features.

This release of Android 4.4 KitKat was originally rumored to be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Below is the list of phones to receive the update.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4 mini
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4 zoom
  • Samsung Galaxy SIII
  • Samsung Galaxy S III mini
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega
  • Samsung Galaxy Light
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

It is important to note that Not all Samsung users of the above mentioned devices in the U.S. will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update on the launch date itself. Only Users who meet the requirements will receive the update within 10 days after launch.

Below are some requirements in a leaked document which must be met in other to receive the update

  • Approved software versions MDB/MDL/MF5/MK2 on device.
  • Device must be linked to a valid Google account.
  • Device must be registered to the Samsung FOTA server.
  • Device must have access to Wi-Fi to download the upgrade.

The truth still remains that Kitkat is the best thing that has happened to the Android OS so far, at least as at time of post. Updating to this Android version is definitely worth it.
