Grow with Google, Andela and Pluralsight have partnered to provide the Google Africa Developer Scholarship (GADS) 2021 to support software developers in Africa on Android, Google Cloud and Mobile Web skills development tracks.
This announcement was made known in a newsletter on the 21st of April titled: “Early Bird Sign up for the Google Africa Developer Scholarship (GADS) 2021”.
This program aims at giving participants free access to select courses, projects, embedded labs, and skill assessments as you advance your knowledge and skills in Android, Google Cloud, or Mobile Web technologies, through the Pluralsight platform.

This year a new course has been added, courses on Kotlin for Android Developers. Kotlin has helped development teams increase productivity, improve app quality, and increase developer satisfaction and this will be a great opportunity to skill upon it.
To continue advancing through the sessions to get access to more courses and mentoring, one needs to show dedication to learning these tech skills by
- Registering for a desired selected track
- Completing all requirements to advance to the next phase
- Participating in Andela challenges and meetups where possible

Advancing to each subsequent phase will help a learner master in-demand Google developer skills with expert-authored Plural sight content. Learners gain skills that can help them get opportunities after the program.
This pre-learning phase is expected to be on until June where the actual phase I of the program begins for learners who make it past the pre-selection phase, one can scale through this phase by completing a course on one’s desired track,
Benefits
Learners who complete the program may be eligible for an opportunity to take an Associate Android Developer or Associate Cloud Engineer Google certification exam with the certification exam fee paid for by Google.

The finalists of the program are added to the Andela talent pool where they are easily referred to and linked with job opportunities and other exposed career growth and mentoring opportunities.
General things to note
Eligibility: In order to participate in the Google Africa Certification Scholarship program, one must be at least 18 years of age and be a resident of a country in Africa.
Selection: Acceptance into this program is limited, so get started today to ensure you don’t miss out! Applicants will be prioritized for advancement based on onboarding survey completion, amount of Pluralsight content consumed and other target demographics.

Value of Award: The Google Africa Developer Scholarship (GADS) program gives you free access to Pluralsight course content plus support from the Andela Learning Community in your chosen skills development track.
After completing your desired track, you may be eligible to receive a Google certification grant to take Google’s Associate Android Developer or Associate Cloud Engineer certification exams. Mobile web learners will not be eligible for certification.
