Google wants to test out an AI tool that automatically generates YouTube video summaries. Will this benefit creators too or just users?
This seems to be an experiment the company wants to undertake, using artificial intelligence to generate descriptions of YouTube videos so users can read instead of watching the whole video.
Updates from a support page spotted by Android police reads “We’re starting to test AI auto-generated summaries on YouTube so that it’s easier for you to read a quick summary about a video and decide whether it’s the right fit for you.”
The company states that the AI summaries “do not replace video descriptions (which are written by creators!)”. Only a limited number of videos and viewers will be used to run the test and it will be in English meaning you won’t see it for a while.
According to Google, these summaries will appear on watch and search pages first.
