HerRyde, a ride-hailing service exclusively for women, has launched in Abuja. The CEO Monsurah Oluwafuyi, COO Muhammad Muzu, and Chief Product Officer Kamaldeen Ibrahim, the company’s co-founders, claim that the company offers a safer option for female drivers and riders while generating employment opportunities for more women.
When asked why they decided to launch a business that will only cater to women, they stated that the decision was made because they all felt strongly that too many women experience harassment and abuse while using ride-hailing services. Social media platforms are frequently flooded with reports of sexual assault, physical assault, and robberies committed against women while they were riding.

According to them, HerRyde is dedicated to ensuring the security and inclusion of women in the ride-hailing/mobility space. By giving women a safe place to work and earn as mobility entrepreneurs, we hope to give women safer taxi experiences while driving inclusion.
HerRyde benefited greatly from Ibrahim’s expertise in creating the ORide product as a former product manager at Opay. Oluwafuyi’s background in marketing, management consulting, and HR as well as Muazu’s background in risk, compliance, and data science are combined with this expertise.

Researchers from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and Hong Kong Polytechnic University found that because there is a smaller pool of drivers available, these services are typically more expensive and of lower quality in a 2019 study on women-only ride-hailing platforms.
The company will set fares similarly to how Uber and Bolt do, based on time and distance, as opposed to using InDriver’s approach, a ride-hailing platform that allows users to negotiate their final fare, in response to these potential challenges of cost and quality, according to the three co-founders.
