Realme has decided to increase their portfolio by adding another fresh series to the ones they already have and here is the first model the Realme U1. The Realme U1 Review is the company’s first ‘Selfie Pro’ smartphone. Apart from the high-resolution selfie camera, the Realme U1 is also the first smartphone to use the MediaTek’s Helio P70 SoC claimed to be way powerful and efficient than the Helio P60.
The Realme U1 was announced on November 2018 and it will be competing with Xiaomi’s Redmi Y series, which also focuses on selfies. And it will also be competing with other prominent smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Asus ZenFone Max Pro. Let’s see all this smartphone has to offer.
Design
The Realme U1 has a striking resemblance with the Realme 2 Pro. The rounded edges provide you with a good grip. This smartphone has a body dimension of 157mm for the height, 74mm for the width, 8mm thickness & 168g weight.
You will find a SIM tray on the left side that can accommodate 2 Nano-SIMs which can also double as a microSD card slot. The bottom of this device accommodates the Micro-USB port, a speaker grille, and a 3.5mm jack.
On the back of the Realme U1 you will find the dual cameras and a LED flashlight, all horizontally arranged. You will also see the fingerprint sensor and the company’s logo at the back.
The Realme U1 comes prepared with a 6.3-inch IPS screen that has a resolution of 1080×2340-pixel. The front of the screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is becoming a little bit out of date. The front of this device also houses the selfie camera, the earpiece, and sensors.
The smartphone comes in different color varieties like the Ambitious Black, Brave Blue, Fiery Gold. In the box, you will find a 10W power adapter, silicone case, USB charging cable, SIM eject tool, quick-start guides, and warranty.
Camera
Let’s begin with the selfie camera, after all, Realme U1 is a selfie-focused smartphone. The front camera packs a 25-megapixel Sony IMX 576 sensor, with an f/2 aperture just like the Oppo F7. The AI beauty mode really delivers a good job and is not aggressive.
The selfie camera takes perfect shots but struggles to take detailed and clean pictures in low light conditions
The back of the Realme U1 houses a dual camera, a 13-megapixel sensor with a f/2.2 aperture. The camera delivers a clean and well-detailed shot in natural light, but in low light conditions, this device struggles. The second rear camera is a 2MP sensor that has a f/2.4 aperture and serves as a depth sensor.
The cameras are capable of recording videos of 1080p, but sadly there is no electronic stabilization.
Performance
Like I earlier mentioned, the Realme U1 is the first smartphone to come with the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC alongside the Cortex-A73 core which is clocked at 2.1GHz Octa-core processor, coupled with the ARM G72 GPU, dedicated for graphics performance.
The Realme U1 arrives in two versions, the 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage, and the 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. You can also increase the storage of both versions up to 256GB via a dedicated microSD card.
This Realme U1 runs on the company’s ColorOS 5.2 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating systems. it also features sensors like the gravity sensor, gyroscope, an ambient light sensor, and the proximity sensors.
