Samsung has always been known to relentlessly try out innovative concepts on their smartphone. This time around the smartphone makers is out with another powerful Mid-range smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy M40 which comes in with large display, sharp cameras, and great design. In this article, we explore an in-depth review of the Samsung Galaxy M40, looking at its specs, features, and price.
The new member of the Galaxy M-series was announced in June and will also be released in some places on the 18th June 2019.
After so many rumors and gossips, the new smartphone has finally arrived. And if you are ready to obtain one of this device, you can actually do that from next week.
It’s obvious that South Korea giant, Samsung has plans of overthrowing Xiaomi’s budgeted series with Samsung’s M-series, which is one the reason the new smartphone arrives with a competitive price tag. Let’s see all the goodies that the new smartphone brings along with it.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy M40 uses the polycarbonate body design making it look like glass and premium. The new smartphone has a body dimension of 155.3 x 73.9 x 7.9 mm and weighs light at 168 g.
The back of the device holds triple vertically placed camera sensors with the middle sensor featuring a silver ring around it making stand out. Beneath the triple camera setup which at the left-upper section of the back panel lies a LED flash.
The smartphone also arrives with a rear fingerprint sensor which is positioned slightly above the center with Samsung’s logo beneath it.
One of the selling points of this smartphone is its Infinity-O display with extremely tiny bezels around resulting in over 91% screen-to-body ratio. The screen is 6.3-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O LCD display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The screen uses the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.
The Galaxy M40 screen also features the Widevine L1 certification which lets users to stream Full HD contents. The whole screen concept makes for an amazing gaming and viewing experience.
You will find the selfie camera inside the punched screen which is the reason for the absence of a notch. Also, the device arrives in just two colors which is the Sweater Blue, and the Midnight Blue.
Samsung Galaxy M40 Camera
The Mid-range smartphone brings along a total number of four cameras, triple primary and single secondary cameras. The cameras were able to capture pictures with a modest amount of details. Portrait shots were very nice with the subject well defined.
The only problem we experienced during our time with this smartphone was that the pictures where not too sharp and the colors look washed out apart from the Portrait shots.
The triple cameras on the Galaxy M40 include the 32-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture. It also brings along AI scene optimizer. Meanwhile, the second sensor is an 8-MegaPixel with an ultrawide f/2.2 Lens. Finally, the third is a 5-megapixel for depth sensing.
The triple primary cameras come with quite a number of nice features such as Slo-mo, 4K recording, and Hyperlapse.
Like we mentioned by earlier, the smartphone features a punch hole on the screen which holds the 16-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Performance
When it comes to performance, the Samsung Galaxy M40 delivers very well. It uses an Octa-Core Snapdragon 675 chipset which runs at 2GHz. Meanwhile, you have the Adreno 612 which handles the graphics and intensive gaming.
The smartphone is presented in two different storage model which consist of the 64GB storage with 4GB RAM and the 128GB storage with 6GB RAM. The storage can be further expanded up to 1 TB (uses shared SIM slot) via microSD card.
The smartphone uses the One UI which is based on the latest Operating System, Android Pie. The One UI has a simple interface that allows users to easily adapt without much stress.
Samsung Galaxy M40 Battery
Powering the Galaxy M40 is a Non-removable Li-Po 3500mAh battery which can offer you a day use with moderate usage.
We were a little disappointed about the battery knowing too well that other smartphones like Galaxy M20, M3, and A50 all bring along a 5,000mAh battery and they are all within the same price range.
The Galaxy M40’s battery supports 15W fast charging technology and you can quickly add extra battery juice via the USB-C port.
Other Features

- 3.5mm Jack ~ No.
- Expandable storage ~ Yes.

Verdict
Considering the price at which the Galaxy M40 brings along, it will be safe to call it a decent smartphone. Despite coming with great specs and features, the new smartphone still has competitors like the Moto G7 and others.
The Galaxy M40 gets a lot of things right and brings in features that matter to the average user. I will recommend the Galaxy M40 if what you want in a smartphone revolves around design, camera, and large screen.
