Vivo Nex smartphone is a new product from Vivo and it was launched in July 2018. The smartphone features quite a number of great designs. The Vivo Nex smartphone houses a whopping a 6.59-inch touchscreen display and a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2316 pixels.
The Vivo Nex is a smartphone that features the features of future smartphones, and this can be seen in the pop-out (elevating) selfie camera, the complete absence of a notch and many other amazing features that will be discussed in the design section.
This smartphone runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 which is Vivo’s custom skin.
Design
The Nex houses a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED display, that is coupled with a full-HD and a resolution of 1080 x 2316 pixel and a ratio of 19.3:9.
Just like the X21, this device comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, but the Vivo Nex completely got rid of the notch. This device is not completely bezel-less, but at least the all-screen future doesn’t seem that far anymore. It has a 91.24 percent screen-to-body ratio, the Nex is almost getting there for sure.
The futuristic design of the Nex phone is its USP. The Nex features an all-glass back and front, and this was made possible because of the absence of a notch. This device comes with a small chin at the bottom and there are rumors; that the Nex could possibly be the most bezel-less phone currently in the market right now.
The sensors and earpiece of this device are placed beneath the display, just like the Xiaomi Mi Mix. Nevertheless, the Nex does not come with a bottom seated camera for selfie, unlike the Mi Mix. Rather what the Nex features instead is an unconventional selfie camera that pop-out and is built out of mechanical parts. With this kind of feature, it may be prone to wear and tear with time, but, Vivo says that it can withstand up to 500-grams of weight and also be used hassle-free for about 50,000 times.
The Vivo Nex does not support face unlock, instead, it features an in-display fingerprint scanner which was said to belong to the third-generation and is faster and accurate than that of the recently launched Vivo X21.
Camera
Here is another section of the Vivo Nex for those who love doing photo things. At the back side of this device is seated a dual camera sensor, consisting of a 12-megapixel camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture and another 5-megapixel secondary sensor with a f/2.4 aperture for depth sensing.
The two camera sensors also house a phase detection autofocus, 4-axis OIS and a powerful dual-LED flash. The camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps.
For the selfie lovers, it is necessary you know that the front camera houses an 8-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture.
Performance
If it boils down to performance the Nex is a powerhouse and this is what anybody would think, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which is the mobile flagship processor of 2018.
One reason why the Vivo Nex is considered a powerhouse is its easy-ay of handling apps and heavy graphic-intensive games. We tested its capabilities by running PubG on this device, still having Google Chrome, Mortal Kombat and Google Maps with their navigations all running in the background. But, there were no signs of any lag or stuttering, and this all thanks to the processor and it’s 8GB RAM.
Another thing we discovered when running those applications, we didn’t feel the device at any time heating up.
Though, the company did not detail the kind of mechanism that they used in keeping the Vivo Nex cooled down, because the device works just ok. Even we were charging the Nex, we didn’t still notice any warmth at any time and that’s what you get with a flagship processor doing all the behind the scene works, coupled with an 8GB RAM.
The performance of this device is not just limited to the ability of the processor keeping the device working fine and cool but it touches all aspect of the device beginning from the user interface down to all other little features.
The Vivo Nex hidden audio system comes into action when you answer a call. Optically observing this device, you will find no visible speaker because the audio resonates via the screen and reaches you.
There is nothing quite wrong with the concept, but it still needs to be improved, because for some parts it is ok. But most times the sounds reach ones ear all muffled. And we believe that they must have received complaints about this and we believe in the nearest feature Vivo will take care of this.
The overall performance of this concept is not actually so bad, because you have to get the whole features mixed up with some uniqueness. But, most areas need improvement.
Battery
One of the amazing features of the Vivo NEX that makes it a compelling buy is its battery. The smartphone houses a whopping 4,000mAh Non-removable battery, that supports the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.
The Vivo Nex comes with a Quick Charge 3.0 compliant charging brick. which, for us is still an underperformance, because it was supposed to come the Quick Charge 4, which the kind of its processor (Snapdragon 845) offers.
Nevertheless, considering the larger 4,000mAh battery life, it is probably better than the OnePlus 6 Dash Charging (or Warp Charging) technology. When we texted the charging speed of this device, it was able to give us an additional 70 percent charge under 45 minutes.
