Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 Ditches the Adoptable Storage Feature on Marshmallow

At the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Samsung unveiled the long awaited Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. In a similar move LG also unveiled the LG G5 which many commentators have seen as a rival to the Galaxy S7. This similarity does not only exist in the specs of both smartphones but also in the build. Funny enough, both Samsung and LG chose to dump the “Adoptable Storage” feature that comes with Google’s latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow flavour.

What Is Adoptable Storage?

The adoptable storage is a feature that allows users to format a microSD card as internal storage, giving the option to merge both and use as a single unit.

Samsung has put forth two reasons for not adopting this feature, both not convincing enough. Firstly, the company said microSD card slots are used to transfer data from a phone to another device, and making it a part of the internal memory could hinder that. This may be a case for some some users, but definitely not all. The company has also said that the Adoptable Storage is only meant for lower tier devices with 4 or 8GB of storage that require memory expansion.

Do you think this is a good decision by Samsung and LG?
