Here is another newly launched smartphone from Huawei, Huawei Y9 2018. For those who are familiar with the previous Huawei Nova 2i, then the new Huawei smartphone will seem like one that you have met before.

Just as the Nova 2i, the Huawei Y9 2018 model comes with a lot of the company’s top-end specs like powerful quad cameras, full FHD + screen, a bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio and many more that will be revealed as we go deep into the review and even deeper into this smartphone.

The Huawei Y9 2018 was released in March 2018 and comes with a low price tag despite featuring amazing and high-end specs. Without wasting much of your time sail on with me to see all the specifications that this smartphone comes with. Let’s find out…

Design

I don’t seem to have any issues with the design of the Y9’s design, as a matter of fact, this device comes with a 2018 look, sleek, stylish and unique. The Huawei Y9 2018 looks amazing with its gigantic 5.9-inch screen that is seated around an aluminum alloy body. It also comes with an 8:9 aspect ratio.

When you turn to the back side of this smartphone, there is a dual camera horizontally positioned. The cameras come along with a LED flash, a fingerprint scanner and the company’s logo close to the bottom. Huawei Y9 2018 comfortably fits in one’s hand, and it looks great.

It’s necessary that I  inform you of the slippery nature of the Huawei Y9, so you need to be careful while using this device or better still get display protection. The Huawei Y9 2018 uses the IPS LCD touchscreen with FHD+ screen that gives you a fantastic viewing experience. The screen of this smartphone also comes with the eye comfort mode, which nice for people suffering from visual fatigue.

All the function buttons are seated in their ancestral positions. On the right side, you find the volume rockers & the power button, while the left contains the SIM card tray. The top of this device is empty. Meanwhile, the charging port, 3.5mm jack, and the loudspeaker are found under.

Camera

I have always told you that I like it from the back, so let’s begin from the back cameras. There is a dual 16+2 MP camera set up on the end of this smartphone. The cameras produce nice images though they seem to come out over slightly exposed in a bright environment.

On the front side of this device, you will also find a dual camera set up. The selfie cameras can offer you a reasonable amount of preserved details. With the 13+2 MP camera set up, you can take images that comes out the original way that they suppose to come out. The selfie camera doesn’t make your skin fairer than usual just like most smartphones does. Though the images tend to be a little bit dark, they still retain a reasonable amount of details.

Performance

The Huawei Y9 2018 comes along with the Kirin Hi-silicon 659 processor coupled with the Mali T830 MP2 GPU. This smartphone was able to correctly take care of my multitasking needs with its 3GB RAM which is very ok for anyone I guess. I didn’t notice any lag during the three weeks that I used this device.

Huawei Y9 2018, has an internal memory of 32GB which is very small for my storing purposes. Thankfully, this smartphone supports storage expansion with the use of a dedicated microSD card slot. The Y9 2018 device comes features smart gestures like tapping twice on the screen to turn it on, to take a screenshot you will swipe three down, swipe a finger down the fingerprint scanner to get access to the notification icons, etc.

The Huawei Y9 2018 runs on the Android Oreo 8.0 and comes along with EMUI 8.0. This device also comes in with a very simple UI.

Battery

If there is nothing worth boasting about on the Y9 2018, the battery is outstanding. This smartphone packs a whopping 4,000 mAh battery that can carry you for a whole day despite the intense usage. With light usage, this smartphone can take you for almost two days on a single charge.

The battery doesn’t support the fast charging technology, and it took 2 hours and 11 minutes to get it charged and a screen on time of about 8 hours.

Huawei Y9 2018 Price

The Huawei Y9 2018 comes with a price tag of 210 USD which is equivalent to 76,900 Naira. If you love this device and want to own one, you can visit some online stores or any Huawei distributor that is within your region.

Verdict

The Huawei Y9 features a beautiful design and also ships in with an affordable price tag. There are features on this smartphone that I fell in love with like the display, design, & Battery life.

Coming to the performance section of this device, it was ok and will comfortably meet the needs of an average user. Nevertheless, if you are a heavy gamer, then the Galaxy J7  is your best bet because of the powerful chipset that it houses.
