Is this Smartphone still worth buying right now, or should you rather go for the newer devices like the Redmi Note 10 or Samsung Galaxy A22? We’ll dive into that right now.
Specs Overview
This is not going to be a whole new review, as the review is already covered on the YouTube channel, here, we’ll simply answering the question of whether it is still worth buying the Redmi Note 9S right now.
As a refresher, the Note 9S comes with 4-6GB of RAM, 64-128GB of internal storage and the Snapdragon 720G, which is a chipset found on a couple of interesting smartphones made this year, like the Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72.
Build
The hardware is what we’ll all be familiar with, you get an all-glass Smartphone for both the front and back, gorilla glass 5 protection,
still retained the headphone jack, and you do not get an IP rating, but the water repellent tag slapped on the Note 9S. The build is a classic, one we still love up to this day.
Software and UI
If you got the Redmi Note 9S from last year, it came out of the box with Android 10, but it is upgradable to Android 11 and MiUI 12.
Cameras
For the camera, you get a 48MP main sensor, 8MP ultra Wide, 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor, while the front camera is a 16MP sensor.

The photos are really comparable; in fact, about the same as what you’d get from the Redmi Note 10 released this year. Videos can be recorded at 4K from that rear sensor.
The one thing that is noticeable is, if you handle roughly, you might get slight degradation to the photos compared to when you first got the device, and that’s because you might have gotten scratches all over your lens cover. Otherwise, when you compare with the devices that come at this price tag, it is still great.

Speaking of Prices, the Redmi Note 9S at the base configuration would set you back about $185 or N97,000 which is a great deal for what it’s worth.
Conclusion
Our final take of the Note 9S ibn 2021 is, in as much as we’d say this is a wonderful device, and all fingers point to the fact that you should get it, we’ll not exactly recommend get this Smartphone right now, and here’s why.
This conclusion would be in two parts, for people who already own the Redmi Note 9S, and the others who want to go pick up a new Redmi Note 9S.
If you already own the Redmi Note 9S and you are not thinking of upgrading your Smartphone to a way better device, I’m not sure there are many other smartphones out there right now that’ll give you this value for the amount paid.
It may be quite far from what you already have so, it’ll be better to stick to the Redmi Note 9S. It is a capable competitor to most devices made this year around this price. You might consider other devices when you have a bigger budget to get something better and out of this league.
If you want to pick up this device right now, we recommend you pick the Redmi Note 10 instead of or the Samsung Galaxy A22.
These are similar smartphones in terms of processing capability, and also newer devices coming in a year later for about the same price, hence you should expect at least a year longer software update from them than the Redmi Note 9S.
The added advantage to getting the Redmi Note 10 would be the super AMOLED display instead of an IPS LCD panel, faster charger from within the box however, the Redmi Note 9S beats the Note 10 in terms of speed and processing as aforementioned. Every other aspect is close enough so you’ll not notice the difference.
Here is another angle, if you are a new buyer and get to see the Redmi Note 9S at a discount, by all mean get the device, it’s very much worth it and would be great value for your money.
