9mobile Talkzone Tariff Plan in Nigeria: What T2 Offers Now

9mobile is now T2mobile and Talkzone is off its plan list. Its cheapest calls are on Morelife Complete: 16.38k/sec plus ₦7.68 a day. Dial *620*1#.

Talkzone was the 9mobile plan that priced calls by place and time. Calls to other 9mobile numbers got cheaper depending on where you stood and what hour it was, down to 12 kobo a second in the small hours, and you joined by dialling *244*8#. It is not on the operator’s plan list any more, and neither is the name 9mobile. The company now trades as T2mobile, and the old 9mobile web address forwards to t2mobile.com.ng.

T2’s website lists four prepaid plans, and none of them changes its price with your location. For plain cheap calls the one to move to is Morelife Complete, which charges one low rate to every Nigerian network and a small fee on the first call of the day. The rates and codes below are the ones on T2’s own website.

T2 prepaid plans at a glance

Plan Calls to all networks Per minute The catch Code
Morelife Complete 16.38k/sec ₦9.83 ₦7.68 access fee on the first call of each day *620*1#, or *301#
T2 Konfam 31.74k/sec from your recharge, 83k/sec from bonus airtime ₦19.04, or ₦49.80 from bonus airtime New customers only, for six months *301#
Moreflex Plus Minutes come in bundles, then 61.44k/sec ₦36.86 outside a bundle The dearest rate of the lot once a bundle runs out *301*9# to buy a bundle
SME Plan Minutes, data and SMS bundled for small businesses Sold by the bundle Bundles run from ₦500 to ₦4,000 Shown per bundle on T2’s site

A text costs ₦6 on the first three. Browsing with no data plan is charged at 5 kobo per kilobyte, which comes to ₦51.20 per MB, so buy a data plan before you go online.

Morelife Complete: one low rate

Morelife Complete charges 16.38 kobo a second for calls to any Nigerian network, which is ₦9.83 a minute. The price of that rate is a daily access fee of ₦7.68. It is taken on the first call of the day and covers you until 11.59pm. On a day with no calls there is no fee.

Airtime Talk time if used in one day, after the fee
₦100 9 min 23 sec
₦200 19 min 34 sec
₦500 50 min 5 sec
₦1,000 1 hr 40 min 58 sec

Against T2 Konfam’s ordinary rate of 31.74 kobo a second, the fee has paid for itself after 50 seconds of talk in a day. Anyone who makes more than one short call a day is better off here.

To move, dial *620*1#, or dial *301# and follow the menu. T2 charges a migration fee of ₦102.40 if you have no free migration left. Its site does not say how often a free one comes round.

T2 Konfam: the plan for new SIMs

T2 Konfam is for new customers and runs for six months. T2 says that after 180 days the line is moved automatically to “the default plan”, and does not name it.

Calls from the airtime you paid for cost 31.74 kobo a second, or ₦19.04 a minute. The selling point is a “900%” bonus on every recharge of ₦100 or more. T2’s own breakdown is plainer. You keep your recharge, you get the same amount again as bonus airtime for calls, and you get seven times the amount as bonus airtime for data. The bonus is billed at 83 kobo a second for calls and ₦70 per MB for data. It is spent before your own airtime and it expires after seven days.

So a ₦1,000 recharge is ₦1,000 at the normal rate, plus about 20 minutes of bonus calls and 100MB. The percentage is bigger than what it buys.

Two more bonuses come with the plan. A new SIM gets ₦1,000 once on activation: ₦300 for calls, which is about six minutes, and ₦700 for data, which is 10MB. From the second month to the sixth, the first recharge of ₦200 or more in a month doubles the data bonus, so ₦1,000 brings 200MB that time.

The code T2 gives for the plan is *301#, then follow the prompt.

Moreflex Plus: minutes and data together

Bundle Price Minutes Data Valid for
Moreflex Plus 200 ₦200 6 110MB 3 days
Moreflex Plus 500 ₦500 16 350MB 7 days
Moreflex Plus 1000 ₦1,000 35 700MB 14 days
Moreflex Plus 2000 ₦2,000 65 1,650MB 30 days
Moreflex Plus 7500 ₦7,500 250 7,000MB 30 days

Every bundle is bought with *301*9#. Buying one moves your line to Moreflex Plus at no charge, and that matters, because calls outside a bundle then cost 61.44 kobo a second. At ₦36.86 a minute that is almost four times the Morelife Complete rate. Unused minutes and data are not carried over when a bundle expires.

The bundles are a convenience more than a saving. Take Moreflex Plus 2000. T2’s ordinary 2GB monthly data plan costs ₦1,000, and 65 minutes on Morelife Complete cost ₦638.82. That is ₦1,638.82 for the same minutes and more data. Add the access fee for all 30 days and it is still only ₦1,869.22.

What ₦1,000 of airtime buys

Plan The sum Talk time
Morelife Complete, calls on 10 days ₦1,000 less ₦76.80 in fees, at 16.38k/sec 93 min 56 sec
Morelife Complete, calls on all 30 days ₦1,000 less ₦230.40 in fees, at 16.38k/sec 78 min 18 sec
T2 Konfam, bonus used within 7 days ₦1,000 at 31.74k/sec, plus ₦1,000 of bonus at 83k/sec 72 min 35 sec, and 100MB
T2 Konfam, bonus left to expire ₦1,000 at 31.74k/sec 52 min 30 sec
Moreflex Plus, no bundle ₦1,000 at 61.44k/sec 27 min 7 sec

Which one should you pick?

  • You call most days: Morelife Complete. It gives the most talk time in the table above, even with the access fee charged every day of the month.
  • Your SIM is new: T2 Konfam’s bonuses are worth having only if you use them inside seven days. If you mostly call, Morelife Complete gives more minutes for the same money. What Konfam adds is a little data.
  • You want one payment for calls and data: a Moreflex Plus bundle. Watch the balance, because once the minutes are gone you are paying ₦36.86 a minute until you buy another bundle or change plan.
  • You stayed on Talkzone for the cheap calls after midnight: nothing on T2’s list replaces them.

If you are comparing networks, we have done the same sums for Airtel’s call plans and, on our MTN Zone page, for MTN’s.

What Talkzone was

9mobile’s own page for the plan, which the Internet Archive still holds, described a prepaid plan with “dynamically adjusted” rates. Calls to other 9mobile numbers were discounted by up to 80%, and the charge fell depending on where you were and the time of day, to as low as 12 kobo a second between 12.30am and 4.30am. A flash message showed the discount when you started a call, and dialling *551# showed the tariff for an area. A text was ₦4.

That page never promised 1 kobo a second or free midnight calls. Both claims went round at the time, and an earlier version of this page repeated them.

The Internet Archive’s last working copy of the Talkzone page is from September 2021. By December 2023 the address returned an error. In 2021 9mobile’s prepaid menu had eight plans. T2’s has four, and Morelife Complete is the only name on both. In July 2024 the Nigerian Communications Commission told operators to simplify their tariff plans by the end of that year.

T2’s website does not say what became of lines that were on Talkzone, and it no longer shows *244*8#, so do not count on that code. If you joined years ago and never moved, dial *301# for the self-service menu or call customer care on 300, and ask what rate the line is being charged.
