Best Hindi Movies on Netflix: New Hits and Old Favourites

The Hindi film India has watched longest on Netflix lately is Dhurandhar, a spy thriller that stayed in Netflix’s own weekly Top 10 for India for 18 weeks. If that sounds too heavy, Maa Behen and Toaster are comedies that also reached number one, and Dangal is still the easy choice when the whole family is in the room.

We did not rank these by taste. We went through about a year of Netflix’s weekly Top 10 lists for India to see what people there are choosing, added older films that are still on the service, and opened each film’s page on Netflix to confirm it is there and read what it is about.

Before you pick: your Netflix may differ

Netflix’s catalogue is different in every country and it changes every month. The pages we opened were the ones Netflix serves in Nigeria. Every film here from 2025 or 2026 also appeared in Netflix’s Top 10 for India, so those have been in the Indian catalogue as well. To see whether a film is in your country, click its title in the table below. If Netflix does not have it where you are, the page tells you the title is not available to watch in your country.

The safest bets are Netflix originals, because Netflix says it holds worldwide rights to most of them. On this list those are Gandhari, Ikka, Maa Behen, Toaster, Chopsticks, Rajma Chawal and Lust Stories. The rest are licensed, so they come and go.

Thrillers and courtroom dramas

Dhurandhar (2025). An undercover operative gets into Karachi’s underworld in the early 2000s and works towards its inner circle, aiming to bring a violent network down from inside. Ranveer Singh leads a cast that includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and R. Madhavan, and Aditya Dhar directs. Its 18 weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 for India was the longest run of any film in the charts we went through. Netflix tags it violent and gory, so this is one for adults. The sequel, Dhurandhar The Revenge, is on Netflix as well.

Gandhari (2026). Taapsee Pannu leads this thriller about a mother left without her sight and without her daughter after a kidnapping, who decides to find the kidnappers herself. Devashish Makhija directs.

Ikka (2026). A well-known lawyer is forced to defend a man he thinks is guilty, with the life of someone close to him hanging on it. Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna head the cast and Siddharth P Malhotra directs.

Raazi (2018). During the 1971 war, a young woman marries a Pakistani military officer so that she can pass intelligence to India. Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal star, Meghna Gulzar directs, and Netflix lists it as based on real life. The page we opened rated it 13+ against Dhurandhar’s 18+, so it is the gentler spy film.

Haq (2025). Shazia Bano’s husband walks out on her and she takes him to court. The case turns into a national argument over women’s rights. Netflix says it is inspired by a landmark judgment. Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar star; Suparn Verma directs.

Comedies

Maa Behen (2026). A mother and her estranged daughters try to hide a crime in a housing colony where the neighbours miss nothing. Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri lead, and Suresh Triveni directs.

Toaster (2026). A miser tries to take back the toaster he gave as a wedding present after the couple call the wedding off, and gets pulled into a murder. Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra star. It is the only film here whose plot turns on a kitchen appliance.

Bhooth Bangla (2026). A man inherits a palace and decides to hold his sister’s wedding there, and the building’s past gets in the way. Akshay Kumar and Tabu star in this horror comedy from director Priyadarshan.

Chopsticks (2019). A talented woman with little confidence has her car stolen, and turns to a con man to get it back from the oddball crook who has it. Mithila Palkar and Abhay Deol star; Sachin Yardi directs. It was on our earlier list and it is still there.

Romance

Cocktail 2 (2026). Diya and Kunal have been together a long time. On holiday in Sicily they meet Diya’s old friend Ally, and start to question what they have. Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna star; Homi Adajania directs.

Tere Ishk Mein (2025). Years after a stormy romance, a short-tempered fighter pilot and a psychologist meet again. Both have new lives, and neither has quite let go. Dhanush and Kriti Sanon star and Aanand Rai directs. Netflix tags it psychological and emotional where Cocktail 2 gets “heartfelt”, so expect the heavier film of the two.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). Raj trails the quiet Simran from London all the way to India, hoping to win her, even though she is engaged to someone else. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol star and Aditya Chopra directs. Netflix files it under classics, and it is the oldest film here by two decades.

Family and feel-good

Dangal (2016). A wrestler who never won the gold medal he wanted trains two of his daughters to compete at the Commonwealth Games. Aamir Khan stars and Nitesh Tiwari directs. On the Netflix page we opened it had the lowest age rating of any film here, 7+.

Laapataa Ladies (2024). Two brides are swapped by mistake on the way to their new husbands’ homes, and each has to find her feet somewhere she never expected to be. Kiran Rao directs.

Daadi Ki Shaadi (2026). A grandmother decides to remarry just as her granddaughter’s wedding is being planned, and the family has to face its old rifts. Neetu Kapoor and Kapil Sharma lead. Netflix lists it under family films.

Rajma Chawal (2018). A widower who is new to the internet pretends to be a young woman online, hoping to mend things with his resentful son. Rishi Kapoor stars and Leena Yadav directs. It is a film about family more than one for all the family: the page we opened rated it 16+.

For adults: Lust Stories

Lust Stories (2018) is four short films about desire and relationships in present-day India, one each from Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. Netflix has since added Lust Stories 2 (2023) and Lust Stories 3 (2026), the newest with shorts from Vishal Bhardwaj, Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao and Shakun Batra. Films from our earlier list that have gone

Garbage, Game Over, Tottaa Pataaka Item Maal and Haraamkhor were on this list when it was first written in 2020. Netflix still has a page for each, and each page said the film was not available to watch where we were. They may be in your country’s catalogue, so search for them, but we would not plan an evening around it.

Films dubbed in Hindi

Much of Netflix’s Top 10 for India is Tamil and Telugu cinema, and many of those films carry a Hindi audio track. Vishwanath & Sons (Tamil, with Suriya), Peddi (Telugu, with Ram Charan) and Gatta Kusthi 2 (Tamil) all listed Hindi among their audio languages on Netflix. They are not Hindi films, but if dubbing does not bother you they widen the choice a good deal. The audio languages are listed on every title’s page.

Where to start

• If you only watch one: Dhurandhar, because it is the film India kept watching for 18 weeks. Skip it if violence puts you off.
• If your country’s catalogue is thin: Gandhari. It is a Netflix original, so it is the thriller most likely to be there.
• For a laugh: Maa Behen, which Netflix rated 13+ where we looked, so most of the house can watch.
• With children in the room: Dangal.
