Best Life Simulation Games for Android, Free and Paid

The best life simulator depends on which kind of life you mean. For a whole life told in text, from birth to death, take BitLife. For a town of Sims to house and marry off, take The Sims FreePlay. If you would rather pay once and never meet an advert or a shop, Stardew Valley is $4.99 in the US and its listing says there are no in-app purchases.

We read the Google Play listing of every game on this page, and the descriptions come from those listings. Where a listing says the game needs a connection, or says it does not, we pass that on, because the free ones split sharply on it.

Life simulation games for Android at a glance

The costs are what Google Play shows in the US. “Plays offline” and “Required” are the developer’s own words in the listing. “Tagged offline” means Google Play attaches that label but the developer does not say it.

A whole life in text

BitLife

Candywriter’s game is a life told in text. Your character is born, the years go by, and each one brings choices about school, work, partners and, if you like, crime, until the character dies. The listing sells it on how differently each run can end.

It is free with adverts and in-app purchases. Google Play rates it Mature 17+ in the US, and the listing itself offers crime, prison and scandal among the choices, so it is not one to hand to a child.

AltLife

The same idea from a different developer, QmzApps. You progress year by year, and the listing adds things BitLife’s does not mention: an influencer career with followers and sponsorships, property and crypto to invest in, and a legacy that carries on through generations.

It is free with adverts and in-app purchases, and also rated Mature 17+. Mind the name. A separate game called AltLife Sim, from Bountiful Games, sits on the US store, and that one has you type your own choices.

Households and homes

The Sims FreePlay

EA’s free Sims game keeps the classic format. You build houses, look after up to 34 Sims and grow a town around them. Sims fall in love, marry, have babies and grow old, and they hold jobs you can follow them to.

The listing is frank about the costs. The game needs 1.8GB of storage and a network connection, advertising appears in it, and the in-game purchases include random items. EA keeps two listings: the link in the table is the one for most of the world, and there is another for North America.

Virtual Families 3

Last Day of Work’s game gives you one adopted “little person” and a house that needs fixing up. You find them a partner, raise children and pass the house down the generations. The unusual part is that it runs in real time: the listing says the family keeps eating, working and growing while the app is closed.

Toca Boca World

The one for children. It is open-ended play with characters, homes and shops, and no scores or time limits. Toca Boca’s listing says it is single-player, with no chat and no third-party adverts. The in-app purchases Google Play flags are the extra locations and packs sold in its shop.

Pay once, no shop

Stardew Valley

A farming game on the surface and a life sim underneath. You take over an overgrown farm, get to know the village, and can marry one of 12 candidates and start a family. ConcernedApe’s listing puts it at more than 50 hours.

It costs $4.99 in the US, ₦1,930 in Nigeria and ₹430 in India. Google Play shows no adverts and no in-app purchases, and the listing confirms the second. An external controller is supported. The mobile version is single-player only.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete

The free Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on our old list has gone from Google Play. In its place Nintendo sells this edition, which the listing describes as a one-time purchase holding seven years of items and events, with no further in-game purchases. You manage a campsite, fish, catch bugs and collect furniture from more than 10,000 items.

It is $19.99 in the US. The listing says a constant connection is not required, though the game still contacts your Nintendo Account from time to time. Save data lives on the device and is deleted with the app. Nintendo’s list of countries where the game is sold does not include Nigeria or India, and the Google Play pages for those two stores showed us no buy button.

One character, one story

Citampi Stories

A life sim from Noctua Games that Google Play tags as pixelated. You start as a street vendor and work up to running a business, with farming, fishing and crafting on the side and a dating and marriage story running through it. The listing says the whole adventure plays offline.

From Zero to Hero: Idle Life

Our old list had this as From Zero to Hero: Cityman, and the same listing now carries the new name. There is no childhood here. You begin as an unemployed adult with no home and work up through a dormitory room, a degree, the stock market and your own business.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery

Jam City’s game is a story more than a simulator. You are sorted into a house, learn spells and potions in class, and make friends and rivals, while a mystery about the Cursed Vaults runs through the school years. The listing says you must be at least 13 and that a network connection is required.

Shared worlds and god games

Avakin Life

A 3D virtual world shared with other people. You dress an avatar, furnish a home and meet other players in hundreds of locations. From the listing it is closer to a chat room with furniture than to The Sims. Google Play rates it Teen.

Godus

Peter Molyneux’s god game from 22cans is still on Google Play. You sculpt the land with your finger and guide a population of followers on from a primitive age. The listing says a network connection is required.

WorldBox

The god game to take if you want one that works without a connection, which its listing says it does. You make a pixel world, fill it with creatures such as elves and dwarves, and watch their civilisations build and go to war, or drop a meteorite on them.

What changed from our old list

• Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp: the free game has gone from Google Play. The paid Complete edition above replaced it.
• From Zero to Hero: Cityman: renamed From Zero to Hero: Idle Life.
• Home Street: still on Google Play. Supersolid’s game leans towards house design, with a neighbourhood of other players to chat with, and its listing says a network connection is required.
• AltLife, BitLife, Godus and Hogwarts Mystery: all still on Google Play, and covered above.
• The Sims Mobile: not on our old list, but people still look for it. EA’s FAQ set October 2025 for its removal from Google Play and early 2026 for the servers to close for good, and its listing is no longer there. The Sims FreePlay is the Sims game that remains.

Which one to pick

• A whole life, start to finish: BitLife. Take AltLife if investing and generations appeal more.
• The Sims itself: The Sims FreePlay, if you have 1.8GB and a steady connection.
• No adverts and nothing to buy: Stardew Valley, for $4.99.
• Free and offline: Citampi Stories.
• For a child: Toca Boca World.
• A god game: WorldBox if you need it offline, Godus if you do not.
• Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete, only if Nintendo sells it in your country and $19.99 is a price you accept for a phone game.

Which life simulation games for Android play offline?

Citampi Stories and WorldBox say so in their listings, and Pocket Camp Complete says it does not need a constant connection. Google Play also tags BitLife, AltLife, From Zero to Hero and Toca Boca World as offline. The Sims FreePlay, Home Street, Godus and Hogwarts Mystery all need a connection.

What is the best game like The Sims for Android?

The Sims FreePlay, which is EA’s own. From another maker, Virtual Families 3 is the nearest in what it describes: a family, a house to improve and children who inherit it.

Is there a life sim with no ads and no in-app purchases?

Stardew Valley. Google Play shows neither flag on it and the listing says there are no in-app purchases. Pocket Camp Complete also shows neither flag, at four times the price.

Is there an open-world life simulation game for Android?

None of these listings uses the phrase. Avakin Life is a 3D world of hundreds of locations shared with other players, and Stardew Valley calls itself open-ended.
