How to Check My Airtel Number in Nigeria: Code and Steps
Dial *121#, choose Manage my Account, then My number. It is the only code for this on Airtel Nigeria's website; *282# and *121*9# are not there.
Airtel Nigeria answers this in its own FAQ, and the answer is a menu, not one long code. Your number sits inside *121#, Airtel’s self-service line, under “Manage my account”. The codes most websites list for the job appear nowhere on Airtel’s pages, and we name them below so you know which ones you are taking on trust.
The code Airtel gives
- Put the Airtel SIM in the phone and dial *121#.
- Choose Manage my account.
- Choose My number.
The number comes up on the screen. Those are the steps Airtel’s FAQ gives under “How do I know my number?”. Save the number as a contact straight away.
*121# is a USSD menu, so it works on a button phone as well as a smartphone and needs no data connection. On an iPhone or an Android phone, type it into the Phone app’s keypad and press call, the same as any other number.

Codes that are not on Airtel’s website
We went through Airtel Nigeria’s FAQ, prepaid user guide, service guide and its SIM, data and app pages looking for every code commonly quoted for this. None of these is on any of them.

An earlier version of this page gave all six and said at least one would work. Some may still respond on some lines. Airtel does not publish them, so if one fails, or opens a menu you did not expect, go back to *121#.
Other ways Airtel documents
The My Airtel app
Airtel’s page for the app lists access to SIM details, SIM registration data and PUK codes among the things it does. It is on Google Play and the App Store. This route needs a smartphone and data, so it is the second choice, but it is useful for the line inside a router or MiFi, where you cannot dial anything.
Customer care
Dial 300 from the Airtel line. Airtel’s service guide lists the call as free for prepaid customers, and postpaid customers use 131. From another network the number is 08021500300, but call from the line you are asking about if you can.
Call a phone beside you
Your number shows on the screen of whoever you call. Airtel’s caller ID page confirms it in reverse: it says #31# before a number hides yours for that call, so leave that off. This needs a little airtime. A please-call-me request shows your number too and costs nothing, but Airtel’s current website no longer lists the code for it. On a new SIM
Airtel’s prepaid user guide has no separate method for a new line. It says to insert the SIM, switch the phone on and start using it, and from that point *121# works as above.
The guide does say what is printed on the plastic card the SIM comes in: the PUK, the code that unblocks a SIM after three wrong PIN attempts. It does not say the phone number is printed there, so check with the menu and not the pack.
Checking the NIN on your Airtel line
Airtel’s user guide lists *996# as its NIN code. That is the same on every network: the Nigerian Communications Commission set *996# as the shared code for verifying SIM registration and the NIN-SIM link. The NCC’s own FAQ says you can dial *996# and follow the steps to link a NIN, or dial *996*NIN# to submit it directly. Airtel’s app page adds that a virtual NIN can be linked in the My Airtel app.
People also search for a code that lists every Airtel number linked to one NIN. Airtel’s website does not describe one. *996# works on the line you dial it from.
